Social Media Influenced Lexicons: A Child’s Vocabulary Production in Talk-In Interactions

Social media has become a prominent medium of communication and been used by all generations, including the youngest members society. It emerged as powerful that makes interactions rapid, simple, sensible. Youngsters also use social to have fun, form maintain connections, share discover hobbies, explore identities, grow familial ties; it is continuation their in-person offline encounters. There an assumption with exposure modern gadgets, internet connectivity, various online networking sites, children's daily talk-in are influenced languages. Utilizing qualitative-descriptive research design, conversation analysis, Vygotsky's theory language development interactionism approach, purpose study provide elaborated academic account child’s vocabulary production in casual conversations list down emerging social-media-influenced lexicons generated from child, which were classified according six-word categories: slang, colloquialism, alphabetism, neologism, loan words, pseudowords. Findings show trends digital exchanges on platforms prevalent occurrences everyday language, where some words phrases possess critical meanings, denotations social-media connotations contrastive nature. As children develop productive lexical skills using media, highlights Vygotsky’s assertion importance "more knowledgeable other" acquisition, production, development.
